Why some people should lower their Google Adwords click through rates

Once you’ve started your Google AdWords campaign and chosen a great set of keywords, your ads may still need some work. No matter how relevant your keywords are, your campaign needs to woo your potential customers, not just freebie seekers.

This seems to be an area that most London PPC marketers fall down on. With all this talk about click thru rate, people miss the bigger issue: the clicks are next to worthless if they dont convert to sales. In fact, they arent even worthless they lose you money. Return on investment is what matters, and everything else is subordinate to that, including (perhaps especially) how many people click on your ads.

So, how do we target buying customers and get rid of the click-hungry tire kickers? Well, there are several strategies I use, and taken together they ensure I get healthy returns on my clicks.

Firstly, pay very close attention to your keywords. By on large, the broader the keyword, the greater the chance of random non-buyers clicking on your ad and costing you money. For example, someone searching for Adwords might want to log into their Adwords account, they might be searching for free content, or they could just be killing time.

Contrast this with a very targeted keyword such as buy Adwords e-book. Well, there is no comparison, the second will tend to convert at ten times the rate of the first, more general keyword but people tend to pay the same for each keyword. I dont know if its because no-one tracks their conversions properly anymore, but in any event dont fall into the trap of believing that all keywords are created equal.

If you are a merchant and have conversion tracking setup on Adwords, pay close attention to where your sales are coming from. The truth might surprise you.

Secondly, add free as a negative keyword to your campaign this will cut out the blatant tyre kickers before they even get a chance to click on our ads.

A third possible strategy is to put your price in the ad, possibly in the headline, eg super new gizmo only $50. However, I dont like this method too much the reason being that the freebie hunters will click anyway, and many potential buyers will be dissuaded from clicking (many copywriters make their price as invisible as possible on the sales letter, why advertise it before they have even read the benefits?)

What I tend to do instead is make a subtle reference to the fact that the information does come with a price tag, using a word such as cheap, low cost, inexpensive, limited offer, discounted price etc. This tends to not only dissuade the hardcore freebie hunters, but will actually make borderline potential buyers curious and more willing to read the sales copy. And that can only be a good thing.

Remember, click through rate is important but only if the people who click are buying. If not, you would be better off pausing your campaigns and trying a more forgiving advertising method.

The two most successful techniques for enhancing your online image are: search engine optimization, and pay per click advertising campaigns.

Basically it’s all about helping customers find your website and business. A pay per click advertising campaign is easy to start. You open an account and deposit some money as a starting balance with the search engine company that you are advertising with. You enter your site’s URL, title and description and bid on relevant keywords. A site selling wine might bid on keywords such as “wine”, “red wine”, “wine club” etc.

When someone searches for “wine club” the details of your site appear, in the form of a search result with the URL, title and description you entered. If they then click on your listing, your account is debited the amount you have bid on that keyword.

Pay per click offers a high level of assurance that your campaign is reaching the proper target. What makes them so effective is that someone who has searched for your product is already qualified when they come to your site, which is selling the product or service they are looking for. Pay per click campaigns, however, are not perfect. Without constant monitoring, you sometimes risk incurring advertising costs that can spiral out of control, focusing on terms that don’t convert well for your product or services or lose out during a bidding war.

It is important that your keywords are relevant and link to the page that contains information relating to that keyword. Bidding on keywords can be expensive. An alternative strategy is to bid on related keyword phrases which no-one else is bidding on. You may then be #1 in the rankings, monopolizing the traffic for those searches and only have to pay the minimum amount per click through. Related keywords and phrases can include synonyms, incorrect spellings, alternative words and phrases, closely related words/phrases, and so on.

Then, perhaps most importantly of all, you need a landing page: (a) specific page(s) created for visitors referred from marketing campaigns to maximize conversion. Landing pages can be a series of related pages within an existing site structure or they can be a microsite, which is specifically setup for a campaign, typically with its own campaign URL – an example is Norwich Unions (faintly annoying?) www.quotemehappy.com

There are different types of landing pages that work best depending on the campaign objectives a landing page integrated into the sites structure or a landing page specifically created for the campaign.

Integrated pages may not work so well in terms of conversion. Bespoke landing pages tend to produce higher conversion rates but it requires more effort and maintenance. So you need to work out whether the cost of producing this type of page is offset by the potentially higher conversion rates and better campaign results.

Some simple guidelines for effective London PPC are keep ads and landing pages relevant; provide enough detail for a decision; capture the audiences imagination and their data as quickly as possible; forget the gurus page length, graphics and menu options type arguments and FIND OUT WHAT WORKS, as in all direct marketing test, test, test.

This article will guide you the importance of directories submissions in launching a new site, or ranking an existing one. I am going to review 6 important areas.

Directories are the brand new site best friend.
Since every new domain gets put in the Google TrustBox, since they favor links from trusted sites. This is a part of the “TrustRank” equation within the algorithm. Directories play a very important roll in getting good quality inbound links that help your site to get out. As they pass PageRank and reputation with Google, your site will greatly benefit from its inclusion in these directories, especially in the launching phase of its life cycle. So, finding solid directories to get your site listed is the key.

The viable alternative to link buying… and safer.
Directories provide one-way inbound links to your site, and drive traffic to your site through direct referrals. By doing this, they boost your link popularity and ultimately improve your search rankings. All this done naturally, and cost free in many cases.

Paid vs. free: the differences and the similarities.
Paid directories quickly list your site, were free ones may take several weeks or even months to review it. On the other hand, some paid directories charge expensive listing fees for the link they provide, and that is not cost effective. If you work on a limited budget for your site, you may want to submit to a handful of paid directories but a few hundred of free ones. Of these last ones, prioritize one-ways preferably. Whatever directories you submit to, paid or free or a combination of both types, the quality of the directory itself should be the biggest consideration in your decision.

The directory page that counts is were the link is.
When doing a directory submission, not only look at the PageRank of the homepage, but also of the subpage, where your link will be. While it may seem like a benefit to have your site listed on a PR7 directory, this is less effective when you realize that the internal page where your link is actually only a PR3, when you expected more.

Pagerank is not the only factor of directory quality.
A low PR directory is not necessarily a bad one. New directories fall in this category. These directories do review and list sites quicker. Also, when they become more popular, so will your listing. Again, base your decision based on the quality of the directory. And keep in mind whether or not the directory is search engine friendly. When checking the structure of the link to your site, make sure it is not dynamic.

Directories links shouldnt be more than 10%.
You shouldnt have more than this percentage in your overall inbound links count. Dont rely on directories alone as your link source. Diversify them for your benefit.
Please refer to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Basics – Part 2 for more sources.

Following my recent article Using London PPC and SEO in harmony I will now look deeper into exploring the various ways London PPC can be used for niche market research.

Googles Adsense is probably the best way for using a London PPC campaign due to its high traffic volume, but not because of its Adsense system. No, indeed similar systems can be found at abundance throughout the web. Google hosts millions of searches each day, meaning that any London PPC campaign is bound to find a few customers amongst such numbers.

The chronological way for using such system would be to bid for your primary keyword, specially if your site isnt organically in the first page of Google and I can be certain that indeed most of you arent even close, which is why you are using London PPC. Using London PPC for your primary keyword is all good and well, but have you noticed how many other websites are bidding in vein for the exact same keyword? You are not the only one using London PPC and if you dont have a certain strategy in doing so you might not even get any results from such system, even though you are paying!

The most popular keywords for a given theme are competed for fiercely. So how do you go about bidding low and minimizing competition for maximum results? Well, you need to focus your campaign on niche keywords.

What do I mean by niche keywords? Niche keywords are words and phrases that relate to your site but are undisputed for because they are very specific. For example, if you had a website that sold second-hand furniture in New York City, instead of bidding for second-hand furniture or used furniture you can be more specific by using second hand furniture in New York and even furniture New York. How about New York furniture or furniture delivery in New York? These keywords are very specific and will generate fewer clicks, but they are QUALITY clicks. These clicks are far more likely to turn into paying customers than people who click on used furniture, because people who search for such general phrases could be anywhere in the world and are out of your business range, but they could also just be fishing for prices or undergoing some research. Competing for very general keywords is unwise and unprofitable.

When someone searches for second-hand furniture New York you immediately know they are within business range because they live in New York. Making this person far more probable of being a potential customer. Not only are they in New York but they are looking for second-hand furniture within their city, bingo!

Finding the right key phrases are not hard, you just need to really think about what a local customer might type into the search box to find you. The more specific, the better. And you will surprisingly find that with such specific keywords competition will be reduced to almost zero, because your competitors are too busy bidding for popular words! Not only will these keywords provide you with golden clicks but also you are the only choice they will have from these keywords! How better can it get?

Bidding for words that are popular is a waste of time and effort. The key to London PPC is knowing when and how to use specific keywords to maximum effect by a careful combination of educated guesses and informed decisions.

Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy And Mesothelioma? Adsense Myths Discussed.

Everywhere I turn these days Im seeing ads for websites being sold proclaiming that theyve optimized that particular site for an outrageously priced keyword, such as Mesothelioma (a cancer of the lungs caused by asbestos). In fact, Ill bet that if you did a search at this very moment on EBAY, you would find at least one auction for such a website, probably claiming that youll make thousands of dollars a month with it if purchased. But dont send them that Paypal payment just yet, you might want to read a little further.

In fact, some companies and law firms ARE paying upwards of $100 for specific keywords in the Adwords program, but that does not mean that you, as an Adsense publisher, will receive anywhere near this payout per click. In fact, you may end up being severely penalized and paid very poorly for that search phrase.

Lets do another search. Hop on over to Google and search the term Mesothelioma. As of this writing, there are over 5 million results. Just a few months ago there were far less. All this tells me is that many believed the hype, and are now competing for a very small market. Wont they be surprised when they find out how much that click actually pays. Ill bet its less than a buck.

Lets understand one thing. Google is smart. Period. They have spent a truckload of money in developing this program. And they have made BILLIONS from it. If you had something that was making you several billion dollars a year, wouldnt you work hard to protect the customers that were paying you? You can bet Google is, and they are watching your web traffics quality closely. If youve put up a page that is worthless to the surfer, worthless to the advertisers, and just plain worthless overall, you will be penalized for it financially.

The fact of the matter is, theres a reason why advertisers are willing to pay an extreme cost per click for certain terms. Its just that there arent very many searches for them. Some terms may only have 100 or less searches a month, internet wide! So these advertisers are willing to shell out the dough in order to get that tiny market.

But its just not smart business for the little guy to chase these terms. There are a ton of terms out there that pay between $1 and $5 per click that are an absolute goldmine. For example, one of the terms on this site: http://www.thegiftedone.com does quite well for me. Does it pay in the triple digits? Of course not. But Ill take the smaller paying keywords every time. There are more searches overall for them, and more people actually looking for the content I have to offer. The result is clear. More clicks, more money.

My advice to you on this is simple. Quit chasing the myths, quit searching for that one word thats going to pay you $500 a click. Focus on building strong websites that are informative for the surfer, and more importantly, productive to your bottom line. Then build as many of them as you can. In time youll see just how far a London PPC program like Adsense can take you, but only if you work for it.

If you would like more information on Affiliate Websites and London PPC programs like Adsense or Yahoo Publisher Network, I have set up a forum at http://www.affiliatewebsitedesign.com . Its completely free and full of information regarding promotion of London PPC targeted websites. I hope to see you there soon!

Till next time,

If you currently do use Pay Per Click Advertisment, or if youre just getting started you always want to find those killer cheap key words to bid on. Those are usually the ones that convert to sales easily. Clicks that cost only a few cents are easy to find. Maybe you have found a few. Let me show you how to find hundreds with this simple Pay Per Click super trick.

The Pay Per Click super trick works for everyone. Even if you have never used Pay Per Click, this will work. You can take this pay per click super trick to the next level, as in, the next level, on steroids. Actually, there a few good ones Ill let you in on.

The trick works like this. You will want to have as many variations on a theme as possible. In other words, hundreds, or thousands of keywords and phrases that advertisers do not think of and people searching for a product do. When you start a campaign, you will use a main key word to build themes on.

How to build your themes.

Lets say our keyword to build themes on is CDs. Now CDs is a very general term. If we razor-point target the term to musical artists and forget about ever using CDs as our keyword, we will be better off.

Next, we just ad words to our main theme and combine them into phrases. So, we place the words “new”, “used”, and “live” in the first position of the phrase. Then, we use the artist name Rush, in the second position. Finally, we put our main theme, CDs in the third position. For example:

new rush cds
used rush cds
live rush cds

You probably think this will take us forever to generate thousands of keywords. It will not! This is how. We are using a computer program to do it that does not coast us one dime to use; in fact it makes us money. It also saves us incredible amounts of time. Thats best part of the super trick.

The list you see below is very small. The list we can actually create will be 10 times this size in 60 seconds!

This is how. We can replace the word Rush with other artists names and we are using the progran to insert brackets and quotes on each side of our keyword phrases. So, if we used ten artists names, we would have a list of 180 key word phrases. Many advertisers would never think of using a lot of these phrases.

For example, I just looked up live rush CDs on Google and there were only London PPC ads! A Rush fan would type that phrase in while shopping. Obviously, CD storeowners, generally do not. What that means to you is, very targeted, cheep clicks! You can use the same technique in any business.

new rush cds
used rush cds
live rush cds
newrushcds
usedrushcds
liverushcds
[new rush cds]
[used rush cds]
[live rush cds]
[newrushcds]
[usedrushcds]
[liverushcds]
“new rush cds”
“used rush cds”
“live rush cds”
“newrushcds”
“usedrushcds”
“liverushcds”

NOTE: Did you notice that some of our keywords look like this? “liverushcds” Thats a great trick to use. Often people dont bunch they enter key between words when typing. The program also removes spaces between words.

Setting our budget

We are going to make sure that we dont pay much. So well just make our cost per click 5-10 cents.

Lets sum it all up.

If we have lists of hundreds or thousands of keywords, they may very seldom get searched for. However, whit that many keywords in our campaing, the rare and super targeted clicks will drive cheep trafic every day because, we have so many waiting for the right people!

Pay Per Click in 2006 :: The Latest News and Tactics Discussed at SES New York

There is probably no one who doubts that London PPC is here for the long term. And while many dismissed London PPC in the early days, it is clear, based on earnings reported by the search engines, that London PPC is here to stay.

Therefore, online marketers need to understand what it is, how to use it and what your competitors are doing. It is also important to know what some of the most effective tactics are out there.

The first thing to know is that London PPC marketing is evolving just like organic placement. There are new players entering the market with unique ways to help you improve your London PPC results.

Take MSN, for example. Because of its huge user base it can offer demographic placement of ads. In other words, if you want your ad to appear only for Women in the 20-35 age group then MSN offers that ability.

Google and Yahoo! are also offering some form of demographic placement, but not to the extent of MSN. With these two you can also opt to place ads in geographic areas, for example, or limit your contextual advertising to appear only on selected sites if you chose to do contextual matching.

Further, as a London PPC advertiser you need to be aware of the types of ads and delivery platforms being developed right now.

For example, we already know that Google is moving into Click to Call ads. They are offering AdWords advertisers the ability to advertise in magazines, and likely theyll soon be able to advertise on the radio as well.

But, there are also other formats in the works such as rich media ads and video ads.

In reality, the paid advertising market on the Internet is still in its infancy. As the Internet becomes more ingrained into our lifestyles the advertising opportunities grow.

In the future well see more ads embedded into all our online content including videos we download or watch and even web media we receive via our portable devices.

There are some pitfalls to paid advertising, however. At a recent Search Engine Strategies session covered by SEO Roundtable, attendees learned just how competitive the paid landscape is.

They introduced a variety of bidding tactics which have been designed to help the bidder own the market space.

Through such things as bid shadowing and bid surfing one can effectively force a competitor out of the marketspace for chosen keywords.

Or, bidders can work co-operatively to lower the bid prices while still maintaining their presence online.

These are tactics which go beyond proper landing page creation, dayparting and other bid managmenet tactics. But, they do illustrate how competitive and advanced some firms have become.

Overall, I think the best bid strategy must start with an acknowledgment of your bottom line what can you afford to bid and still make money doing it? This is where some firms fail while the most successful go on to bigger and better things.

This ROI based bidding can help ensure that you dont break the bank while trying to maintain your competitiveness.

This type of bidding can also help you find those markets which are untapped by forcing you to constantly analyze and re-analyze the market looking for those opportunities.

Remember, an effective paid campaign is just like an effective organic campaign. You dont always have to be number one. In fact, in some cases a number 2 or 3 position can be much more effective at a much lower cost.

Pay per click or London PPC advertising is possibly the easiest and most effective way to market your business online. Getting your website listed in the search engines is vital due to the fact that the majority of website traffic (statistics say over 80%) comes from the search engines. Effective London PPC management begins with devising a strategy to drive qualified traffic to your website.

London PPC (London PPC) advertising is simply advertising your website through the use of the search engines sponsored listings. When using London PPC you bid on keywords or keyword phrases that your targeted prospects may use to find whatever your website offers. Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly known as Overture) for instance, only considers the bid amount in ranking a site. The most popular London PPC Google Adwords uses bid value and your success (click through) rate.

To develop a your London PPC strategy and plan, you must conduct market research. This should consist of identifying your target market (preferably a niche market), identifying keywords that your target market uses to search for what you are offering, and analyzing the keywords and alternative keywords that will appeal to your target market.

During your keyword analysis, you will want to find out how popular keywords are and what the average bids are for certain keywords you are considering for budgeting purposes since defining a budget is a necessary part of London PPC management.

Budgeting for London PPC advertising involves not only determining how much money you can spend on your campaign, but basing that on the monetary value of a click to your website since you are paying per click.

Your conversion rate, the number of unique visitors divided by the number of sales, plays an important role in determining the value of a click to your site for London PPC advertising budgeting purposes as does the average net profit per sale. By dividing your net profit per sale by your conversion rate, you can accurately determine the value per click to your website. The price per click that you pay for your London PPC advertising should not, of course (!!!) exceed this value.

So if your selling a product that gives you a 10 profit, and a particular keyword takes 50 visitors to create a sale you would bid no more than 0.20 per click to break even.

A few tips about London PPC if you DIY.

1. Dont put more money than you have to into your account sounds obvious but.!

2. Test, test, test have at least two separate ads for the same product at the same time. Drop the lower performing adverts and add a new one until you are satisfied with the results.

3. Make sure to keep up with your results daily at the very least and adjust your strategy according to results.

4. Continue to look for new keywords and as you find new ones lose the poorer performers.

If you approach London PPC advertising logically, follow the direct marketing mantra of test, test, test, monitor results regularly and make adjustments only according to results London PPC advertising is a powerful tool for driving profitable traffic to your site.

Although it is not that difficult to get started in Adsense and have your site producing revenue while you sleep, it is much more difficult to make this venture actually payoff. The trick to becoming successful in gaining a number of hits on your site it through the proper use of keywords. When used correctly, keywords will bring browsers to your site quickly and often. So how do you develop the power of your keywords? Here are a few tricks!

Keep It Simple

If you want to generate hits on your Adsense link, it is best to keep your site uncluttered and focused on the keywords. An abundance of text will only make viewers go elsewhere and will cause the keywords to get lost in the shuffle. Keeping it simple also applies to the design of the page. This means keeping the flash of a site to a minimum. The easier the keywords are to locate without needless distraction, the more likely you are to have successful hits.

Be Specific

Nothing can kill the possibility for successful hits quicker than too many keywords on one page. It is important to be very specific and to keep your keywords grouped together on themed pages. This will ensure a large amount of hits on pages that interest the browser.

Diversify Your Site

Even though you should try to be specific on the individual pages, it could greatly increase the productivity of your site to have multiple pages that are very heavy in keywords. These keywords could be as different as you want them to be. Indeed, some webmasters actually make their pages as different as possible in order to attract several types of users that will search using a variety of keywords.

Get The Most Out of Search Engines

One of the most effective ways to make sure you get the most out of keywords and Adsense is to understand how search engines actually work. Often times, search engines will pick up key words that are a part of a file name or within the first few words of a document. By placing keywords in these places and ensuring that they are prominent, you will be greatly increasing the chances of a large number of hits on your site.

Know What Keywords Sell

Before you try to gain some income through Adsense, it might be important for you know exactly what words are the hottest key words on the internet. Tope search engines will most often give you this information for free and many even have it posted. By tailoring your keywords, you can cash in on the productivity and trends of others in order to make sure that you do not fall behind and that you generate plenty of hits on your site. It is only through a volume of hits that Adsense is able to create any payoff. By knowing the kewords that will generate enough views to make your site worthwhile, you will be in a better position to generate income from the hits.

Check Out Your Own Site

This is a great way to find out how easily it is for viewers to find your site. Type in the keywords of your site and see how easy it is to stumble across your own site. By doing a little research, it will enable you to find out exactly how your site will appear to the casual viewer. This will help you to tweak the site to become more readily noticed.

Anyone using Google Ads is aware of the great potential of income by way of visitors visiting your website or blog and clicking on one of the Google Ad Links and registering a payment in your Google Adsense account, sounds simple.

The major hurdle for people is getting that website traffic to your site, and reading the various information guides on the internet will provide you with practically thousands of useful ways of generating traffic such as keyword rich web pages, article writing and reciprocal linking to name but a few.

But people must also realise there are actual ways on the internet that are expressed in articles as being the golden ticket to riches, which are in fact the sure fire and quickest way to get yourself banned by Google, ruining any potential of you making a decent income from your website, and people must be aware of the problem outcome.

From my own experience when first starting out with Google Adsense, I found myself to be very impatient at the fact that I may have to work at my website for possibly years to generate enough traffic to click on my ads and earn me a decent income from my website. So being frustrated at this lengthy procedure, I embarked on searching Google for possible quick fix methods which would start traffic flooding to my website and greatly increase the potential of visitors clicking on my Google Ads.

The method I fell upon was the TRAFFIC EXCHANGES, which guarantee visitors to your site in exchange for you visiting other people sites. Some of these TRAFFIC EXCHANGES operate with Google Ad clicking in mind, promising no guarantee that people would click on your Ads, but you will see an increase in Google Ad clicking.

Being stupid and impatient and at the time not realising I was doing anything really wrong I joined ten of these TRAFFIC EXCHANGES and built up my traffic credits every day for a month and sure enough I got thousands of visitors and quite a few clicks on my Google Ads, it wasnt thousands of dollars but it was enough to put a smile on my face.

Then like a bolt of lightening from the heavens, a nice little email came from Google expressing they had been detecting invalid page impressions from TRAFFIC EXCHANGES and if this was to continue they may have to ban my account.

Now I tell you I immediately went to all them TRAFFIC EXCHANGE accounts and promptly deleted my urls to my Google Ad site and ceased the use of these traffic programs straight away. Sure the traffic to my site dropped to under ten a day, but I felt very lucky and relieved that Google had not banned me permanently from the Google Adsense program.

The trouble with the terms and conditions at Google Adsense, is it does not clearly state what is illegal page impressions and it wasnt till I received this email that I realised I was doing anything wrong, and im pretty sure that many webmasters out there have had the same conclusion and have not been as lucky as me and have had their Google Adsense accounts permanently closed.

This articles main purpose is drive a point home, if youre wanting to make an income from Google Adsense, then the slow methodical approach of adding keyword rich web pages and writing and submitting articles over many months will eventually start giving you that much needed traffic and hopefully reward your hard work with enough Google Ad clicks to give you that dream income. DONT CHEAT!!
