The process of informing search engines about new pages in your website or about new websites in your care can be quite a time consuming task. The submissions process is just way too much trouble for its own good that even the search engines have realized that it is a path not worth pursuing and completely stopped using this method a long time ago.

There have been many innovations presented since then as a way of simplifying the submission process and eliminate most of the drudgery that has been associated with this task. With the development Google Sitemaps, the process has indeed been a big help to many webmasters and business owners. In fact, many people contend that Google Sitemaps is probably the most important development on the internet since the RSS, blogs and ping.

RSS, blog and ping had actually been used by webmasters as tools in informing search engines about new additions to their websites even though this function was not the primary purpose of the aforementioned innovations. Of course, Google Sitemaps is so much faster and easier to use compared to the said systems and this is the reason why it has risen in popularity and is now acknowledged as the most effective way of updating a website to search engines. In fact, this new innovation of using sitemaps for the search engine submission process has become a very vital part of operating a website and a webmaster can ignore it at his own risk.

There may still be some sceptics who may still not believe that a sitemap method of submitting new web pages or new content to a website is very effective. One reason why using the sitemap method like Google Sitemaps is that the technology was developed from the ground up with solely one primary goal, which is to alert and direct the Google search engine spiders to the web pages that you have specified. All the other methods are considered as indirect and submissions to search engines are not their primary purpose either.

Clearly, using Google sitemaps provides a win-win situation for webmasters and online business owners.

First, Google sitemaps limits the huge waste of the resources needed to crawl web site that have not changed. The technology allows webmasters to inform Google which pages have changed or if there are new content added to a website and then direct Googles spiders directly to those pertinent pages.

Google Sitemaps also radically speeds up the process of discovery and addition of pages to Googles web site index. This can only be achieved if you use the technology and nothing else.

Google Sitemaps offers a level of usability that is different from conventional sitemaps because it offers a directory of all the web pages in the web site that the webmaster or online business owner wants the search engine to visit.

Without the assistance of sitemaps like Googles, it may become hard for a web page to be found by the search engine crawlers. There is even a chance that the page may not be found at all.

Search Engine Secrets – Get Top Listings On Google & Yahoo!

Let me show you How to Get Top Listings for every page of your site and Rank #1 for all of your Keywords in the Search Engines – Guaranteed.

Did you believe this? If your like me you’ve probably seen a million pages and emails like this that claim they can work miracles for you in all the search engines. They claim everything from having inside information or special relationships with Google and all the search engines.

The simple Truth is this: No one can guarantee top listings on any search engine, in fact, no one can even guarantee that you’ll ever be listed. So beware of big claims and unethical Birmingham SEO firms as there are many out there.

So how do you get top listings in the major search engines. Let me try to answer that as simply as I can without thoroughly confusing you. CONTENT – yes that’s right… content is still king… the more you try to fool search engines the more damage you’ll do to your rankings. Search engines are getting smarter and smarter and they have seen every trick in the book done by every unethical Birmingham SEO/SEM firm and spammer out there. So don’t fall pray to the hype and false claims.

Here’s the big Search Engine Secret

Well Written and Related Content, Relevant Page Titles and Meta-tag Descriptions. So there you have it, the secret is out… if anyone tries to tell you different or convince you otherwise – put away your check book and run. Yes, there are other things you can do to help your rankings using the 3 items above and a few more.

How to improve your chances in the search engines rankings:

*** Know your top keywords.. Use Yahoo’s Keyword Tool http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/?mkt=us〈=en_US or Goggle’s Sandbox https://adwords.google.com/select/main?cmd=KeywordSandbox to find what users are actually typing into the search engines to find sites like yours. Once you have all your top keywords – don’t loose them… you will use these over and over and over again.

*** Use your top keywords in the content of your pages, in your page titles and in your mate-tag descriptions. I don’t mean to use pages that are filled with nothing but keywords, use them in Real Sentences. Pages that are nothing but keywords will hurt you in the search engines, this is called keyword stuffing and will hurt your rankings or worse yet, get your site delisted or banned from the search engines. Simply take your current site content and use your top keywords in appropriate places where they make sense in real sentences.

*** Don’t over use keywords or try to use to many on one single page. Have your main keyword in the title, the description and a couple times on the page content is usually sufficient. Do this for every page of your site optimizing it for the subject of that particular page using the relevant keywords from your research. I see so many sites with the same Title and Meta Descriptions on every page. Make sure yours are different.

*** Get as many high value links as possible. Best way to determine High Value links is to install the Google Toolbar at http://toolbar.google.com/ and use Google’s Page Rank to determine link value. You can also use out PR Tool at http://www.i4market.com/tools/rankcheck.html. The higher the rank the better. You may have to pay for links on PR7 or higher sites – but don’t pay too much. You can also use Alexa Traffic Rank or their toolbar – http://www.alexa.com/. The more High Value links you have the better your Search Engine Popularity will be.

*** Install Link Exchange Software… but be selective about the link exchanges you approve.

*** Add value added relevant content to your site, such as articles, news, blogs or tools related to your business or industry. This will increase your search engine saturation. A site with 100 pages of good quality content has much a better chance of being found than a site with only 10 pages.

*** Use Google XML Site Maps or find and company that will create one for you. http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/docs/en/about.html

*** Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site. If the site map is larger than 100 or so links, break the site map into separate pages.

*** Try to use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. Search Engines do not recognize text contained in images or flash content. If you must use images, then always use the Alt tag to describe the link.

*** Check for broken links and correct HTML.

*** If you decide to use dynamic pages (i.e., the URL contains a “?” character), be aware that not every search engine spider crawls dynamic pages. It helps to keep the parameters short and the number of them few. Don’t use “&id=” as a parameter in your URLs, as Google does not include these pages.

*** Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100).

*** Make use of the robots.txt file on your web server. This file tells crawlers which directories can or cannot be crawled. Make sure it’s current for your site so that you don’t accidentally block the spiders from content you want included.

*** Understand the difference between a Search Engine and a Directory. A Search engine uses spidering technology and will search the web for new sites. Directories will not seek you out and you will have to be tell them about your new site manually.

*** Revisit your keywords on a regular basis. There are a 1000′s ways to search for the same thing, search patterns change from time to time. You’ll want to keep up with those changes.

*** Submit your site to the search engines if it has never been submitted or you are not listed in that particular engine. Most search engines still have a free submit for the “Natural Listings”, yet they may not be easy to find. You can find Google’s ADD URL here http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

*** Submit your site to the Directories including Yahoo! and DMOZ. DMOZ http://www.dmoz.org/ is the Open Directory Project and is used to power thousands of other sites and directories – Inclusion in this directory gets you links in 1000′s of other sites. DMOZ is also the directory Google uses. http://directory.google.com/

WHAT NOT TO DO.

– Don’t Use hidden text or links
– Don’t Use doorway or gateway pages.
– Don’t Use pages that redirect users to other places.
– Don’t use any type of cloaking technology – no matter how great it sounds. It might work for a short time – but you will get caught.
– Don’t use Flash content for important information. Flash is an application that is completely invisible to most search engines. Flash is good for animations and other page elements – not for an entire site unless you also have an html version.
– Don’t Use Misleading or overly repeated words
– Don’t Use Bait & Switch tactics… they don’t work.
– Don’t Use Duplicate sites or pages
– Stay away from Free For All or Link Farms schemes, as these will only hurt you.

There are many things that affect your rankings then just the content on your pages, so DON’T obsess about being #1 – you may never get there no matter what you do. Your time is better spent operating your business in areas you have more control over.

Following the above guidelines will get you the best results your site will achieve. That’s not to say that there is not more you can do – but these are the main items that will effect your rankings in the SERP’s (Search Engine Result Pages). The internet a huge place and technology changes all the time – so do the search engines – a site that is #1 today might be #1001 tomorrow.

You can try to do all this yourself or you can hire a company that specializes in Birmingham SEO/SEM (Search Engine Optimization & Search Engine Marketing), however beware, there are many that will separate you from your money quickly and leave you with little to no results. We suggest you take some advice from Google concerning selecting an Birmingham SEO firm for your company. http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/Birmingham SEO.html

Above all else – remember this – There are NO GUARANTEES in any type of marketing campaigns, be it on the web, in print, on television or radio. So spend prudently and select your Marketing firm wisely!

London SEO Leveraging Your Content On The Way to Google Heaven

The Search Engine Optimization Quality guidelines have a direct impact on how search engines rank your website in search results and your websites page rank. While they are listed as suggestions wise people are advised to listen REAL CAREFULLY when Google talks search engine optimization guidelines. Failure to follow them may have their website from being removed from Google. Worse than death (at least you have a grave stone) banishment removes your site from Google’ and partner sites. Here are search engine optimization techniques to stay friends with Google and sleep soundly at night (while thousands of people visit your website)

Enhance Content

First of all, forget search engine ranking and website design and concentrate on website content. Create a enough web pages to give a sense of what visitors will experience on your site. Email pages to people for their comments and feedback on your subject. Soon youll have a sense of what you have to offer and how to design your website. With the emphasis on content useful information to people, website design is logical and quick.

Site Maps

How will people reach the pages on your website. A proven London SEO approach is to provide a simple hierarchy and text links for your website along with a site map. If you dont have one, Google offers an online site map generator. It seems like an obvious search engine positioning technique, but worth repeating a visitor should be able to reach each page from a static text link. Your site map point to the right page and also boosts your search engine ranking not a bad deal. For large site maps over a hundred links, create smaller site maps.

Web Page Hierarchy
An important search engine marketing tool is the proper placement of titles on your web page H1, H2, H3, and so forth. These title tags guide the search engine though you page and help it determine what to read first, second and so on. The main subject of the page should be identified with an H1 title tags and secondary subject with an H2 tag and so forth. The proper use of titles benefits both the reader and search engine optimization.

Meta Tag Mania Search Engine Marketing

Do you just go nuts trying to write the perfect meta tags? Join the club! While whats in the meta tags are important.. how should we say, Its whats in the bun that counts! In other words, search engine positioning techniques such as meta tags are secondary to what written on the page. Create useful, useful, entertaining content and your meta tags will write themselves. Be sure that your pages have the words listed in the meta tags and display important names, content, or links in text not pictures. Got that? See you in Google Heaven!

The act of submitting specific URLs to popular search engines like Google, MSN and Yahoo! to ensure the web page get indexed is called search engine submissions. Search Engine Submission is often seen as a way to promote a web site. There are two basic reasons to submit a web site or web page to a search engine. The first reason is to add an entirely new web site because the site operators would rather not wait for a search engine to discover them. The second is to have a web page or web site updated in the respective search engine.

How web sites are submitted
There are two basic methods still in use today that would allow search engine submissions. They can either submit one web page at a time. Or, they can submit their entire site at one time with a sitemap. However most of the times, with just submitting the home page, most search engines are able to crawl a site, provided that it is crawler friendly.

In order to get a good placement in various search engines, webmasters must optimize their web pages. Many variables come into play, such as the placement and density of desirable keywords, the hierarchy structure of web pages employed in a web site, the number of web pages that link to a given web page etc. The Google search engine also uses a concept called page rank.

Google Sitemaps was introduced in June 2005 so web developers could publish lists of links from across their sites. The sitemap is used to make the search engine aware of the site and the pages on the site. At this moment XML sitemap support Google, Yahoo, Ask.com, MSN. The location of the Sitemap can also be specified using a robots.txt file to help search engines find the sitemaps

Web sites desire to be listed in popular search engines because that is how most people access web sites. People like to search for information on the web at what is known as a search engine. Sites that appear on the first page of a search are said to be in the top 10. Clicking on a hyperlink causes the found web page to appear in the searchers web browser.

What Exactly Is Involved In Search Engine Submission
Many people think search engine submission is the act of submitting your websites URL, to the search engines so that they know your website exists, list you in their index and start sending traffic your way. At the most basic assumption is true but there are a number of flaws which reveal search engine submission to be little more than a meaningless hello to the search engines. First, search engines mostly find websites by following hyperlinks from other sites .Thats why quality webpage content and quality links are extremely important in order to succeed online. The fact that a search engine knows you exist, doesnt mean that it will simply send traffic your way. Search engines have millions and sometimes billions of sites indexed, so why would they think your site is so special that they would bypass all other sites to send traffic your way. Just as there are potentially billions of pages in the indexes of the search engines that matter there are sometimes millions of other pages with content similar to yours with whom youll be competing against for search engine traffic. So, even if you do submit your URL to the search engines it is still highly unlikely that they will start sending significant traffic your way.

The Flip Side of Search engine submission

Search engine submission of a website, if performed incorrectly, can cause a web site or web page to be removed from search engine databases. Successful search engine submission, on the other hand, can make a webmaster’s hard work pay huge rewards. URL search engine submission of any website, to say the least, is full of pitfalls for the honest hard working webmaster or web administrator.

Search engine submission rejection, of a web page or web site, can be attributed to many factors. Did you know that there is one little unknown factor, concerning the choice of web hosting server, which will lead to certain URL search engine submission failure of any website.

Now more and more businesses are awakening to the realization that in order to survive on and offline solid investment in search engine submission is needed, and those unaware of the actualities of how search engine submissions works are eagerly signing on, not realizing that they could be wasting their money, and worse, distancing themselves from the search engines instead of getting closer to the top of the rankings pages.

If the task seems somewhat daunting, or youre too busy running your online business to get involved with the technical end of search engine submission, you can find a reputable Bristol SEO company who will do it for you.

Search Engine Optimization (Liverpool SEO) For Google, Yahoo, and Msn

In this article I will review the similarities and differences between the ranking algorithms of Google, Yahoo and Msn. Google and Yahoo are considerably reasonably close in terms of off-page factors weighting compared to Msn, which is more on the on-page side. Like Google, Yahoo and MSN will discount obviously identical and unnatural looking anchor link text. Since these algos are frequently updated, I will only concentrate on those factors that do not. Otherwise, mayor updates should take place for them to be replaced by other/better methods.

The Google Factors.
It is a known fact that Google is focused on links. Therefore, it ranks them by quality and relevancy factors. With that said, on-page factors such as title keywords, content keyword density and relevance also influence the ranking of a given page. Google also looks into the “neighborhood” of your site analyzing outbound links. If you link to related quality sites with relevant content, search engines will associate your site with these neighbor sites.

The Yahoo Factors.
Yahoo tends to be the most active of the three when it comes to crawling. Not a general rule though. But in addition to its nature, having RSS on your site will get it more aggressive and frequently crawled. Similar to Google, Yahoo gives a lot of importance to inbound links, looking into factors like relevancy and anchor text, and heavily at volume of links. Their TrustRank is a form of PageRank, but with a special teleportation to a subset of high-quality pages. Yahoo search rankings appear to place extra importance on your site being listed in their directory, especially for highly competitive terms. Keyword density in title and content relevance also count.

The Msn Factors.
Maybe a substantial different from the other two, Msn normally gives more weight to the title text. Also, CSS optimization plays an important role at getting better rankings here. Msn is second to Yahoo on links volume, but the link analysis is reversed, analyzing inbound links for quality, anchor text keywords, and relevancy. Inclusion in the MSN endorsed directories would boost your site high in the SERPs. This fact still holds true, but its advantage has lessened with the new Live version. Content freshness is still very important, boosting rank of frequently updated pages.

Optimizing for all.
Yes, it is possible. Did someone said: wikipedia? Regardless of the algo differences of the mayor search engines, a site with great content that attracts users, and generates lots of natural occurring inbound links having great anchor text, has a great chance of replicating similar success. Of the off-page factors, quality of inbound links is the most important. Of the on-page factors the keyword density in the title. A good balance between conservative keyword density and other elements like RSS and CSS need to exist when used, since they all get particular boots or penalties with the search engines.

The Google Sitemap program has brought a high level of assistance to web developers, web designers and business owners who want to optimize how their websites web pages are seen by the Google search engine. We all know how important page ranking is for a web page. The higher your page rank in Google, the more chances that it will be clicked and visited by visitors. Increased internet traffic is what drives sales and awareness for products and services.

The Google Sitemap program has become very popular because it made the task of submitting web pages to Google so much easier. A web developer or designer does not even have to worry about making frequent changes to the web pages because it is more easily known by Google. By presenting a constantly fresh index of web pages for your web site you are assured that what is presented in Google is the latest pages that you are maintaining.

The very high popularity of Google Sitemap has encouraged Googles team of engineers to develop and add more features to the program. These additions seek to make Google Sitemaps more intuitive and effective in its functions.

Google recently announced that it has again added a bevy of new features for the Google Sitemap program that just made certain aspects of the program so much easier to understand and maintain.

Here are the latest new features of the Google Sitemap program:

Query Stats. Knowing the top position of your website is important. With Googles Query Stats, you will now know the top search queries where the results included your website as well as those that Google searchers actually clicked on. The position given is the average statistic posted over the last three weeks.

Top mobile search queries. Google acknowledges that there is a growing number of people who use mobile devices for browsing the internet and also consider it as a separate demographic. For this reason, the top mobile search queries feature shows web designers and developers the top search queries made from mobile devices in which the results showed their website. Web designers and web developers will see both the mobile searches of all web sites as well as the mobile searches of mobile-specific web sites. The results given by this feature will only appear if it is available in your web site. At this point of the development of this feature, Google only shows the top search queries and not the clicks made for those queries.

Downloading Sitemap details, statistics, and errors. Your Sitemap account now also contain additional information. You can now download information in the form of a comma separated value file. This type of file can be opened by using any text editor or spreadsheet program. You can decide to download the information on a per table basis, or you can opt to download Sitemap details, errors or statistics for all of the web sites in your Google Sitemaps account in one convenient file.

What is Google AdSense?

Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads on their website’s content pages and earn money.
-Google, July 2006

Through some clever java script and coding, Google matches content on sites to related ads. AdSense is a great program that allows webmasters to earn income through ad revenue by doing absolutely nothing but post content. AdSense is actually a really great program for those who maintain blogs, as blogs get updated all the time and the AdSense possibilities are almost limitless.

How to Use Google AdSense

Google utilizes its search technology to serve ads based on website content, the user’s geographical location, and other factors.
-Wikipedia, Google AdSense, July 2006

Its quick and easy to sign up for Google AdSense. Simply go to the google homepage, and youll find everything you need to start using this program. Of course, before you can use Google AdSense you have to have a web site first! Google AdSense can actually help increase traffic to your site, because your site will get a better ranking within the Google search engine. Using feeds, Google AdSense works automatically, which means no effort at all is required on your part. By signing up and putting some code into your site, you can collect revenue for doing absolutely nothing.

AdSense has become a popular method of placing advertising on a website because the ads are less intrusive than most banners, and the content of the ads is often relevant to the website.
-Wikipedia, Google AdSense, July 2006

How to Make Money from Google AdSense

AdSense delivers relevant text and image ads that are precisely targeted to your site and your site content. And when you add a Google search box to your site, AdSense delivers relevant text ads that are targeted to the Google search results pages generated by your visitors search request.
-Google, July 2006

Google AdSense is incredibly easy to use, completely effortless on your part. Google even features helpful tools that allow you to check your daily AdSense profits. The best part of AdSense is that it costs you nothing, not even time. Once you get AdSense set up, youre done. All you have to do is sit back and collect the profits.

You can run Google ads on all or just some of your pages, using AdSense strategically to complement your direct sales team. You’ll pay nothing, spend little time on set-up, and have no maintenance worries. You can use AdSense for a day, a month or for however long it pleases you to make a profit-it’s your choice.
-Google, July 2006

The more pages that have Google AdSense ads on your web site means more profits for you, because you can gain earnings on each and every page that is viewed even if you do nothing. Google AdSense can help boost the page views on your site, and of course bring a little extra income for your pockets. Its easy to use and requires no work on your end but it can bring in some much-needed revenue. Its easy, its free to use, and you are required to do very little to bring in much-needed web traffic and extra income. So why not give Google AdSense a try?

By carefully choosing the best relevant keywords and then using solid offpage optimization, you will be guaranteed increased online traffic for your website. This is good news for affiliate marketers and anyone needing mass traffic in order to achieve online sales goals. It takes a little work but is well worth the effort, so don’t be lazy!

Your very first consideration when optimizing web pages should be keywords. Your online success is determined on how well you can choose these; After all, this is what visitors have typed into Google or another search engine to find what they are looking for.

Keywords should be in demand, meaning frequent searches are being conducted on Google, Yahoo!, MSN etc. Words with a count of 300 to 500 are good. Words with counts of 500 to 1,000 are great (maybe). Count here means how many times per month the term has been searched on.

A good rule of thumb is to pick terms that have KEI (keyword effectiveness
Index) of 10 or greater. KEI is a large potentially complex topic, fortunately all you need to focus on is knowing that the higher the index the easier the term will be to optimize. In other words a high demand search term with not too many competing websites will receive a higher KEI than a high demand search term with many, many competing websites.

You need to focus on keywords that are in demand, yet not so competitive that ranking in the top 3 pages in the Yahoo!, MSN and Google is within reach.

I must stress going through the process of offline optimization using poor keywords is useless. They should be specific enough to get targeted traffic but not so obscure that no one is searching those terms.

If you optimize your website using poorly chosen keywords, your end result may be increased online traffic, but not bringing the specific type of visitor you had in mind, so it is very critical to get this right, all your other optimization efforts are influenced by the initial keyword terms you ultimately decide on.

Has Google thrown the cyber world a curveball? Let’s fill in some blanks and connect a few dots regarding the recently-filed patent application for Google’s latest Search Engine algorithm – Search Engine 125. For those unfamiliar with the inner workings of search engines, each Search Engine uses its own unique formula for determining that all-important ranking for each web site. Remember, users who query a Search Engine rarely look beyond the first page, so if you want to increase visitor traffic, step one is to develop your website in a way that matches the major search engine’s ranking algorithms. You need to find out what the search engines like and make sure you feed it to them.

Now, over the years, the formulae used by search engines to rank a site have grown more complex. Pre-2000, search engines didn’t do much more than count keywords on a site. The more times the words ‘limburger cheese’ appeared on the site, the higher the site’s limburger cheese search engine ranking position (SERP). Of course, the key then became to develop Birmingham SEO text with limburger cheese mentioned in every header, twice in subheads and at least once in every paragraph. Hardly compelling reading, except for the most avid of limburger cheese fans.

So, the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines moved to improve the quality of their SERPs, to provide users with helpful, expert information. Changes were made to the keyword algorithms (the weighing formulae), awarding more points for things like the quality of inbound and outbound links to and from a site. This meant that quality links from a relevant ‘authority’ site – a highly-prized designation, will move your site up in the SERPs.

Well, on March 31, 2005, Google applied for a patent on its latest search algorithm. For those who have no fear of their brains exploding from buzzword overload do a search on Patent Application 0050071741 to read the entire patent. The patent application describes “a method for scoring a document comprising: identifying the document; obtaining one or more types of history (sic) data associated with the document; and generating a score for the document based on the one or more types of historical data.”

Apparently (or not), Google has determined that historical data associated with each site is an essential ingredient in developing the highest quality search results for users who query. And just what kind of historical data are we talking about here? Well, things like:

* the site’s inception date (more likely the date the Search Engine noticed you)
* how frequently documents are added and removed from the site
* how often sites change over time
* number of visitors over time
* number of repeat visitors
* number of times your site is bookmarked
* how often keyword density is changed
* the rate at which the site’s anchor text is revised
* inbound/outbound links – how long in place and high trust (quality) links

The list goes on and on. Factors associated with your domain include: how long your site has been registered, has the domain expired (ghost sites), is the domain stable – as in not moving from one physical address to another.

Links remain a key component of Search Engine 125. Links have to be relevant to your site. Links to your site increase in “SERP Power” as they age. Link growth should be slow and steady. A sudden influx of inbound links – especially links that have no relationship to the content of your site – is a surefire way to drop in the SERPs. Google gives such sites a much lower score.

How about data on your visitor traffic? How will Search Engine 125 weigh that? Number of visitors, growth in visitor rates, spikes in visitor rates, the length of each visitor’s stay, number of bookmarks to and favorite rankings of your site – all enter into Google’s new Search Engine algo according to the patent application.

Another weighing factor is search results. The number of searches using a given query word or phrase, a sudden increase or decrease in click through rates, an exceedingly large number of quick click throughs (which might indicate ‘stale’ content), again all factors that Google believes will increase the quality of its search results.

Other factors are also listed as part of the patent application. A site with frequent ups and downs in traffic will lose points for untrustworthiness (even if your site sells only seasonal items!). Keyword volatility, focus change and other variables will also be employed in Google’s never-ending quest to quantify the quality of each site its Search Engine delivers to users based on their queries.

So, okay, where’s the mystery? The intrigue? The disinformation? The e-commerce community is abuzz with speculation – speculation that Google’s well-publicized patent is nothing more than a plant to throw off the competition, disinformation intended to keep the competition and Birmingham SEOs off balance. So why the speculation? Well, even a quick scan of the patent application reveals large areas of gray, vagaries and downright inconsistencies within Google’s proposed ranking criteria. For example, sites are penalized for changing content often (untrustworthy) and rewarded for the frequent addition of new content (freshness). A paradox, you say? Or all part of Google’s master plan to feint right while going left.

The object, in the end, is quality search results. That’s what Google, Yahoo and the other popular search engines want – that perfect equation, the ideal formula that will provide high quality search results. And for site owners and designers who, in fact, do keep their sites fresh, who have quality links useful to visitors, who deliver the information the user is looking for – there’s no reason for concern. However, the owners of links farms, keyword dense sites and cyber garbage dumps should sit up and take notice. In the end, quality search engines will inevitably improve the quality of content available on the Internet.

Search Engine Optimization is basically a research work to rank high in search engines. Thus a Sheffield SEO has a lot to study as there are so much search engines with their own algorithms. The most popular of these search engines are Google, Yahoo, MSN, Alta-Vista, Lycos etc.

Google Algorithms and Updates

Google is considered as king of Search Engines. It has most the most confidential and complex algorithm ever yet. Beyond, Search Engine Ranking Position [SERPs], it gives Page Rank to every site depending upon their back links. Still, it doesn’t not allow you to increase your back links by any other means. Google updates their algorithms after sometimes and that algorithm update is considered very important among the optimizers. The recent algorithm update of Google ended up in December 2005 and was known as Jagger Update. It was the first update after Florida, which occur in November, 2003.

Google Sandbox

Those sites, which uses unethical means to get good SERPs are banned or penalized by Google. One such penalty is Google sandbox. It is still not sure that whether Google Sandbox exits or it is just an assumption. Whatever it may be, this has been assumed that Google Sandbox is an algorithm which Google use to penalize any site. Once a site is in Sandbox, it can be suffer in various ways, like:

The site is removed from Google SERPS, and Googlebot stops crawling or indexing it.

The site gets crawled and but doesn’t appear in the SERPs.

The site can get sand-boxed on only one or few keywords, though the site gets regularly crawled and remain on SERPs for other keywords.

Only few pages of the site can get sand-boxed while the other being treated normally by Google.
