Picture this scene, an adolescent boy walks into a barber shop and says to the barber, Dont touch me, Im only here because my mom forced me. Search engine optimizers are sometimes put into the position of the barber. They are knowledgeable and willing to work on their clients site, but the client doesnt want any modifications done to the text that is visible on her web pages. This kind of dilemma occurs due to general misconceptions about search engine optimization. Lets look at these misconceptions.

1. Bristol SEO only involves writing meta tags and working on invisible code

Many people want to get a high ranking for various keywords or keyword phrases, but if you look at the text on their web pages you can hardly find these vital words. They come to a search engine optimizer and think that he or she will sprinkle these words into the meta tags and it will work like magic. This is a major misunderstanding.

It is true that your main keywords and key phrases should be in your title tag and your description meta tag, and even in the keywords meta tag, but they must also appear on the page itself and they must appear in some strategic places on that page. Some clients say, But I like the way it looks now. You may like the way it looks, but the search engines will not recognize that your page is truly about Electronic Widgets unless these words appear in headlines on the page, in the opening paragraph, in the file or domain name in link text and in the body text of your page.

So, by all means if you already have copy that works, that can convert visitors into buyers or otherwise accomplish the purposes of your site, keep it. But you should also be ready to listen to what the optimizer has to say about modifications that will enable search engines to select your site when a potential buyer makes a query for your key words or phrases.

2. Search Engine Optimization is Tricking the Search Engines

Some clients say, Dont touch the visible copy but put in the modifications invisibly. Using invisible text is something that can get you banned from a search engine. The main purpose of search engine optimization is to give your website the best possible chance to come up in good positions when someone makes a query for your keywords or key phrases. The key to doing this is to design web pages and write copy that is intelligible to search engines, without sacrificing the experience and understanding of your end-users, the people who visit your site. So, dont ask your Bristol SEO professional to try to trick the search engines, but work with him or her to present your website in the best possible way.

3. Search Engine Optimization deals mainly with onsite modifications

Even if your website is well designed, has proper meta tags and has keyword-rich text, this alone does not guarantee that your site will rank high in competitive queries. All of these factors, design, meta tags, and copy, are on-site factors. Search engines certainly take them into consideration, but they also value off-site factors such as how many high quality or authoritative websites link to you. This means that hand-in-hand with your on-site optimization you and your promotion team will have to embark on a campaign to get links to your websites coming from websites that are already highly regarded by the search engines and by the public in general.

4. Search Engine Optimization works instantly

Dont expect to get a flood of traffic right after your site has been optimized. Some search engines work in a fairly rapid manner, but the main search engine at the present moment, Google, is believed to have deliberately put an aging delay into its algorithm. This means that it may take several months before your site makes it into the top results for your particular category, especially if it is a newly created site. During this initial period you will also have to consider using other promotional methods such as pay per click advertising, article marketing, joint ventures, paid advertising in ezines and offline advertising.

So, the next time you work with a search engine optimizer, let him or her go about the task of making your website both user friendly and search engine friendly.

This article will explain the importance of link quality, and its application to link building. Everyone may have a different understanding of what quality is on terms of links, but essentially that is your decision entirely. If you have an existing site, that you need to build links for, use this as a reference check list to ensure that you are link building properly. I am going to review the key 6 areas.

Is the page linking to you indexed in Google and is the cache version fresh?
Why is this essential? Google has a cached page of any indexed page on their index. So basically, this should be your starting point for any link partnership decision. You need to verify that the page the link partner is proposing for exchange, is actually indexed and that the cached version is of the page is fresh in their records, within 20 days old as a benchmark. This will show that the page in question gets crawled often. PageRank of the page is secondary, and comes normally afterwards in comparison to this primary check.

Is the page linking to you on topic? Is this a themed link?
There is a big difference between the types of links you can get. These type of link are very targeted and carry a lot more weight over generic or unrelated links. This is part of what explains why some sites with much less links that their direct competitors are able to outrank them for particular terms. Quality links from themed sources is the short answer. Focusing on just “popularity” and inadvertently ignoring “reputation” is a mistake a lot of online marketers make. Keep this in mind.

Is the Title tag of the page linking to you on-topic? What about the text?
The title tag of the page linking to you is of great importance. When that is combined with text that is on topic with the page which is being link from, and other factors, the link value is increased greatly for the link. So as you can understand from this, is all about the co-relation of these factors that makes one link better than another.

Where is your link on the page located? Navigation, gutter, footer, body?
Location of your link is another strong factor to consider. The most beneficial location is considered to be within the body area of content. Any repetitive areas like navigation, gutter, footer, etc would normally not carry as much weight as the main body area. Run-of-site links fall into this group. There is a preference for the first paragraph, but the middle or bottom within the body content are good areas as well.

How many other links are on the page? Home Page vs. Link Page PR gap?
PageRank gets automatically diluted in relation to the amount of links on the page.
Google guidelines currently suggest a maximum of 100 links per page. So here you
want to make sure the number is as small as possible. I recommend targeting 20 links per page maximum on average to have room to allow those pages link growth. Also, what is the difference between the main page PR and the subpage were you are getting the link from? In the best cases, your link will be one point under the home page value. If it isnt, you can consider other options with your link partner.

After preparing your list about keywords well, you should begin placing those keywords on your website. But, which part on the website should it be placed?

1.Title Tags
As you open a front page via the web browser, the Title tag would appear on the top of the front page as usual. As for the search engine, the Title tag is vitally crucial. Comparing with other parts on the website, the part of search engine stands high proportion for the Title tag. So, to put keywords into this tag is the turning point of heightening the vision scale of search engine. Besides, the Tile tag would also appear on the searching result of search engine and then be hyper-linked to your website. Therefore, that the Title tag is described well or not relates to if browsers can be drawn attraction to click your website as choosing from numerous searching results. And Title tag is the first description that people can read as searching results are shown via search engine; thus, make the Title tag easier as possible as you can so that people can realize what your website is about.

2.Meta Description
Meta Description is kind of HTML tag and mainly used to describe the content of the front page. But these years the Meta tag isnt arranged into the running rule of operation analyses because that isnt as important as the Title tag. But we still suggest readers to compose the Meta tag because certain search engines would manifest the content of Meta tag in the searching results. That is to say, it can be the attraction for web browsers to click and read materials inside. Remember the description cannot be exaggerated; otherwise, as web visitors browse your website but find out the content isnt like what you describe, he may recede soon.

3.Meta Keyword
The keyword tag isnt that crucial as the Title tag and Meta description. But if correct keyword tags can be noted down, it may do good. As one types keyword tags, he should choose the keywords which relate to content of that front page to avoid surplus, irrelative or duplicate keywords. This tag wont be read by people in common condition except for the search engine.

4.Headings
Headings are words placed between (h1)—–(h1) in HTML tag and mainly prompt browsers what the main content is and for the search engine, it stands in the pivotal place for the search engine.

5.Context
The ratio of numbers of keywords to words on that front page is called keyword density. Your keywords should appear in the appropriate website content. When it comes to numbers of times and frequency, you can search for the keywords you want to optimize in the search engine and compile statistics about the density of top keywords on the website.

To protrude keywords on the website appropriately will be helpful for the ranking of website in search engine. But, excessively modifiers may be considered as Spam by the search engine.

If you take your top key word search engine placement within Google and look at your website’s description, you will notice something similar with other websites, the descriptions match those taken from Alexa.com!!!

Take a peek for yourself.

1 – Search for your top key word in Google (usually the first key phrase within your title tag).

2 – Now copy & paste this description in a note pad or word doc.

3 – Once you have this, go to: www.alexa.com

4 – Type in your “url” in the address bar

5 – Look at the description from Google and the description from Alexa, they should be an exact match.

NOTE: If you do not have a description in Alexa, Google will come up with its own version but in reality, wouldn’t you want to be in control of your website’s description within the SERP’s?

Not having a description in Alexa – Could it directly affect your Google search engine results?

ABSOLUTELY ! ! !

I would suggest looking at your description in Alexa to make sure that it directly targets your top key phrase that you want performing well within Google.

Your Alexa description could very well determine better SERPS within Google! Google feeds results into Alexa which in turn updates information on website ranking. They are partnered up, why wouldn’t they use each others results?!

Alexa’s Description is the “text book” definition:

I don’t blame Google for wanting to use these descriptions. Most descriptions in Alexa are the “text book version” of your company’s description and are usually well written, and well thought out. This would give Google an advantage so that they can spend less time on delivering quality descriptions and more time delivering better results within their searches.

I really like this idea because if this were true across the board, Google would be giving the individual website owner more freedom to write a proper description for their SERPS without using it to spam or create false information. Again, it would have to be approved by Alexa’s team anyways, they probably wouldn’t allow key word stuffing for their site as it is.

Search engine ranking is the ranking of a website or web page in the search engine results, for a given keyword phrase

Getting top search engine ranking requires that your site is designed well and is easily spiderable. Designing a search-engine-friendly web site isn’t difficult; you just have to keep a few basic concepts in mind.

Search engines like to spider and rank sites that appeal to users. This is the main challenge for search engine developers to create algorithms that will favor user-friendly web sites while casting aside sites that are created mainly for spiders. This means that the rule of search engine friendly design is the same as the rule for web design in general: Make it user-friendly!

There are a few important things you should do in order to improve your search engine ranking:
Your title tag should have keywords that meaningfully describe your page. Note that this “title” refers to the one in the head section of your document, not the one displayed in your browser window.

The description meta tag may also influence the ranking of your page for specific search terms. This means, presumably, that if someone searches for a particular keyword, and it appears in your description and title tags, Google will accord that page a higher rank.

Keyword density is important to Google. This probably means that if someone searches for “search engine ranking” and your page has many instances of those three words in sequence, your page is considered more relevant than another page with those three individual words scattered all over the page.

Words in the keyword meta tag have the same value as the other words on the web page itself, except for one very important case: if your meta keyword tag contains keywords that do not occur in your main web page, your page will be penalized. Your search engine ranking may improve if you use both the title tag and relevant meta tag.

Avoid keywords stuffing, extremely small text, hidden text, etc. Google considers these to be spammy techniques.

Stay away from duplicate content: this includes mirrors of your site as well as identical content appearing from different domain names.
Remember, search engine users generally only explore the first 20 sites in the search results. If you site isn’t in the top 20, you won’t be found, it’s as simple as that. You should always include search engine optimization in your marketing budget to make your site as effective as a billboard on a street. So what are you waiting for? Select the best London SEO services available, and start the journey towards higher search engine ranking NOW!

Did you ever wonder about making your site more appealing to the Search Engines? Did you get scared off by the high fees that Leeds SEO specialists charge for their services? If you answered yes to each of these questions, then I have some good news for you. There are only a few very effective ways to get good search engine rankings. The techniques are not very hard to learn and only really require time and patience on your part. Lets get started.

Domain Name
The trick here is to register a domain name your customers can remember and the search engines think is relevant. Use words in your domain name that describe your product or service. For example, dont call your site www.derekspage.com if you sell pink widgets. You would be better off calling your site www.bestpinkwidgets.com.

Title Tag
Search Engines value the contents of the Title Tag when ranking your site for keywords. Put your most important keywords in your title tags, using singular and plural versions of each word. Make your tags different and specific for each page on your site. For example, “Pink Widgets and Pink Widget Support”. The Title Tag should be a short logical description of your web page.

Header Tags
The description Meta tag is still used by many (not Google) search engines and is often used for displaying a short description of your website. Use about 20 to 30 words to describe your site and be as comprehensive as possible in the small space allowed. Try using your important keywords within the description tag. The keyword Meta tag is rarely used and should not be considered very important. Just put your important keywords in this space and move on to more important optimization issues.

Image ALT Tags
The ALT tag is used for a very short description of an image or graphic file, and is displayed when your mouse pointer hovers above a graphic. Using your important keywords in the image description has been shown to have a small effect with some search engines.

Keyword density
Different search engines have their own preferences as to how many times a keyword phrase can appear on a given web page in order to demonstrate the importance of that keyword phrase. You should try and make sure that your important keywords have a 5 to 8 percent density in your site. If you keywords have higher than 10 percent density, it may be considered as keyword spamming or stuffing. (This will hurt your search engine rankings dramatically) Use the H1 and H2 heading tags to elevate your important keywords within your site. The keywords contained in these tags are considered slightly more important by search engines.

Inbound Links
Getting inbound links should be considered your most important Leeds SEO strategy. Search Engines will rank your site based on the number and quality of inbound links to your site. Links from other highly ranked sites are more valuable and will increase your sites ranking. Contacting other website owners and asking them to exchange links with you is a good strategy. The sites linking to you should not be your competitors, but should be related to your site. For example, a bike repair shop would benefit by exchanging links with a bike trail site. Page Rank is a good indication of how valuable a site would be as a link exchange partner. Yahoo and Google each have a page ranking system. When arranging a link exchange, make sure that your important keywords are included in the anchor text. Search engines use anchor text when they try to figure out the relevance and importance of your web pages.

We all have heard that search engines are the number one resource for consumers to research and buy products or services online. In fact, marketing studies have shown that over 70% of web surfers use search engines to locate online merchants. The ramification of this statistic is simple: if you want to reach the members of your target market you need to make sure that your business web site appears in popular search engines.

Search engine optimization (Liverpool SEO) can help you achieve this. Liverpool SEO is a crucial online marketing technique. It helps you to get your web site to appear in search engine result pages (SERPs) for keywords that that are relevant to your business. For example, if you are a business coach, and someone is searching for “business coach”, it would be great for your business if your web site appears in the first 10 results.

So what exactly is search engine optimization? Liverpool SEO includes selecting the best keywords for the body of the page as well as other page elements (the title tag, keyword and description meta tags, etc.) Carefully chosen keywords provide “hints” that search engines use to classify your site and to determine whether your site should appear for certain search keywords. On-page keyword optimization by itself will help your rankings. However, holistic search engine optimization is required to achieve optimal results. For the best placement, focus on Liverpool SEO as a whole, rather than concentrate on a particular technique.

Here are a few important elements of holistic search engine optimization:

- Have good content. After all, content is king (or queen, whichever the case may be). Without content there isn’t much of a site. The content must walk a fine line between providing useful content and including sufficient and relevant keywords for search engines.

Often it is difficult to optimize your product or service pages for search engines, since the main goal of these items is to showcase the benefits of your offer. On the other hand, it is easier to optimize blog posts and articles. In fact, you can create entire articles and blog posts around keywords that are popular with your target market.

- Have consistent navigation. Both your web site visitors and search engine spiders navigate your web site through links that connect different pages. Consistent navigation ensures that your visitors can reach every page on your web site from every other page. On top of that, you will you get the most out of your search engine optimization efforts.

- Get links to your site. Links to your web site play a very important role in holistic search engine optimization. Many popular search engines evaluate your web site’s popularity based on counting the number of links that point to your site. The more popular your web site is, the better rankings it gets on search engines. The best links are links from reputable, quality web site that have complimentary or related content.

You can get links to your web site by using a variety of techniques, such as writing articles, participating in link exchanges, and participating in online networking.

Take a holistic approach to web site optimization. Apply Liverpool SEO to your web site as a whole, and always evaluate the overall impact of your marketing efforts.

In Sheffield SEO, keywords are of supreme importance. Keywords are words or phrases that search engines use in order to match web pages with search queries. It’s important to optimize your website with strategic keywords in order to maximize targeted traffic. You will use keywords in both your on-page and off-page optimization.

First of all, choose a domain name that includes your best keywords. For example, if your best keyword phrase is “satellite affilaite”, you’d want to choose a domain name that includes this phrase. You might therefore choose a domain such as “SatelliteAffiliateTips.com”.

Use your keywords in the title tag and description tag. The description tag should make sense and entice users to visit your site when they view the description on a search engine.

Your keywords should also be used in your H1 tag. Scatter keywords throughout the content of your page to a keyword density of between 3%-7%. Avoid overuse of a keyword. Most Sheffield SEO experts believe that using a keyword too frequently can trigger a search engine’s “keyword stuffing” filter. It is believed that the search engines use such a filter in an effort to prevent search engine spam from appearing in the top results. It is also helpful to add common misspellings of a word as well as both the singular and plural forms of the word or phrase.

You’ll want to use your keywords within the anchor text of the links. Assuming our best keyword phrase is “satellite affiliate”, you’d want to link to your home page using that keyword phrase. A good link to your home page might therefore look something like “satellite affiliate tips”. Apply this linking method to all of the pages within your site. Furthermore, request that other sites link to you using a similar anchor text containing your best keywords.

Keywords are one of the primary components in search engine optimization. They are the means by which search engines identify relevant pages for given searches. Using keywords effectively is one of the keys to achieving maximum traffic from the search engines.

In terms of layout, many web sites are not designed for optimum search engine and directory visibility. People or companies seem so centred on their corporate or personal images, products, and services that they neglect to design their web sites with search engines and directories in mind. Search engines and directories vary in the way they rank your web site in a search query. Some search engines place primary emphasis on the text within your title tags. Some search engines place emphasis on the main ideas presented in all of your text on a single web page. Some directories emphasize the text you submitted in their “Description” field. How and where you place your text, both in the copy your visitors see and within the HTML tags your visitors do not see, will affect your ranking

Keyword selection
Keyword placement
Keyword frequency
Links & architecture
Site statistics

Keyword Selection

Of primary importance is selecting the best keywords for your industry and the keywords you believe your potential customers will use to find you. Selecting the right keywords requires research.

Look at your company’s printed materials. What words do you use over and over? When you speak to new and current customers on the phone, what questions do they frequently ask and what words do they use? Ask your current customers how they would find you on the Internet. Then go to the major search engines and directories. Type in the keywords you want to use. Study the source code of the web sites that appeared in the top 20. Look at how your competitors ranked in a search query. Adjust your keyword selection accordingly.

Keyword placement

Of equal importance is keyword placement on individual pages. The text in your title tag is one the most important elements for ranking well in search engines. The text in your titles should be descriptive, using the words and lingo in your industry, and should accurately reflect the contents of each web page.

For optimum search engine positions, your keywords need to appear at the top of your web pages. Thus, before you design your web page, ask yourself if you (or your web designer) have strategically placed your keywords within your title tags, meta-tags, headings, graphic images, and the first paragraph within your body tag. If not, you might need to rethink your site design.

Keyword Frequency

What is important to both the search engines and your target audience is keyword frequency and keyword prominence. Designing and coding your site with keywords in the right locations and the right frequency is an art form. Keywords need to appear frequently on your web pages, but if they appear too frequently, your site will be penalized for word stacking (also known as “spamming the index”) or could be removed permanently from the index.

Also, some search engines ignore meta-tags. Thus, if you have included your keywords in your meta-tags but have not placed them elsewhere, you have missed a huge target audience, namely AOL users. Sites with frames have problems being indexed well because there is little opportunity otherwise to include additional text with keywords.

Very, very few web sites can get in the Top 10 of all the major search engines (AltaVista, FAST Search, HotBot, Google, Lycos, Teoma) without spamming. We cannot emphasize this enough: if you hire anyone (a submission service, an individual, an online promotion service, etc.) to do the services we just described, they need to have HTML and design experience, online marketing, and excellent copy writing skills. You do not want your web site to be permanently banned from a search engine or directory due to ignorance or lack of experience. Furthermore, submission services usually do just that: submit. Many do not perform keyword research, the HTML coding, and copy writing necessary to get a site optimally placed within the search engines. Ask a lot of questions before handing over any money.

Links & site architecture

Placing keywords throughout your web pages is useless as a search engine marketing strategy if the search engine spiders are unable to record the text on your web pages. Therefore, always have a link architecture (also known as a site map) on your site that the search engine spiders can follow. Oftentimes, this means having two forms of navigation on your site: one that your target audience prefers, and one for the search engines.

Site Statistics

For the first few months after you have your web site submitted to the major search engines and directories, you should see a jump in traffic. If you look at your site reports with your visitor statistics, which should do frequently, you will see when the search engines spider and index your site.

Hopefully, because you have been thoughtful enough to give potential customers a reason to return to your site again and again, people will bookmark your site, and your web statistics will show an increase in a “No Referrer” category under referral URL’s. Your site reports should show you where your potential customers are coming from (i.e. which search engine or directory they used to find you) and which keywords they used to find you.

After your site has listed in the search engines and directories for a few months, review your site statistics and determine where the majority of your traffic comes from. Then focus your advertising efforts on those directories and search engines. You get better sales from targeted marketing than from spreading your net too wide.

One client did exactly what we recommended, from keyword selection to monitoring site statistics. They found most of their sites referral traffic came from Yahoo queries. They bought banner space from Yahoo for two months. Whenever two of their keywords were typed in a search query, their banner would appear. Their traffic increased over 500%, and their sales reached five figures per month.

Lastly, the saying “Content is King” still rings true. You can increase traffic to your web site, but if (1) people do not like what they see, (2) you do not offer potential customers what they want to buy, or (3) you do not give customers incentive to stay and/or bookmark your site, they will click off of your web site as quickly as they clicked on to it.

Free Search Engine Optimization (Bristol SEO) tips – step by step

There are so many websites all over the internet so its essential to promote and optimize your website. A new website needs to be visible to search engines. Before submitting your site to search engines it is very important to optimize your website. If you can not afford a search engine optimization service, make sure to follow our few search engine optimization tips to have your web site well optimized for the top placement in search engines.

Step 1. – Analyze your competition
The best way to start optimizing your web site is analyze your competition. Take a look at the web pages that currently have top rankings (Top 10) on Google for targeted keywords and try to find out what these pages have done to get these rankings.
- analyze the first top ten web sites related to your branch
- analyze keywords they are using
- look at their source code, meta tags
- look at their keyword density
- look at their comment tag, alt tags, title tag
- internal and external links on their websites
- look how many sites linking to them
- check out the quality and link popularity of sites that are linking to your competitors
- look how many pages they have
After all you can tell is it easy to beat your competition or it is not.

Step 2. – Start to improve your website with quality content
When optimizing your website always use keyword in the meta tags which are reflected in your page. It is not going to help your search engine ranking if the page has nothing to do with the topic.

Step 3. Choose the right keywords.
As mentioned before, analyze your competition but never use the same keyword and description tag. There are two great resources for finding out the most effective keywords. – Overture – WordTracker

Step 4.Creating meta tags – TITLE Tag
The most important tag is the Title tag, because it is in the head section of your website and many search engines use it. Title tag should be short (about 14 words), descriptive and to the point. The title is appeared on first line in the search engines.

Step 5. Creating meta tags – DESCRIPTION Tag The next important meta tag is description tag. It describes content of your web page
- shouldnt be longer than 120 characters
- description is for the search engines not for the viewers to see

Step 6. Creating meta tags – KEYWORD Tag
- use the most important keywords that your website represents
- we recommend to use 5 keywords separated by a commas
- one keyword should have 1 – 3 words

Step 7.Creating meta tags – ROBOT Tags

Step 8. – Check your website URL before submit to search engines.
Your website should be finished without errors:
- no broken links
- no spelling mistakes
- have a good design
- no html tag mistakes
- have a site map

Step 9. – Submit your website to search engines
Submit your website into the most important search engines, it brings you the most of traffic. Make sure to submit your URL for free to www.google.com, www.yahoo.com, www.altavista.com, www.alltheweb.com, www.excite.com, www.lycos.com, www.webcrawler.com, www.Alexa.com, www.Jayde.com, www.whatuseek.com, Open Directory (The ODP powers core directory services for some the most popular portals and search engines on the Web, including AOL Search, Netscape Search, Google directory, Yahoo directory, Lycos, DirectHit, and HotBot, MSN and hundreds of others). DMOZ and Yahoo Directory listings are tremendously valuable. There are a lot more free and paid search engines and directories to submit, but if you do not have time to search for and submit, you can also use our search engine submission service.

Step 10. – Build your link popularity (offpage optimization)
Next significant step you should do with your website is build your link popularity. Link Popularity is the number and quality of other websites that link to your site. Top rankings depend on your link popularity. It can be done with creating a quality non-reciprocal and reciprocal links from related web sites and Internet directories, blogs, forum sites
